Overview

 

 

This is an ideal position for a candidate interested in pursuing a career in non-profit, fundraising/development, event coordination and/or public relations while making a difference in the lives of people living with and affected by blood cancers. We are looking for an organized and creative self-starter who can manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively with a diverse audience. The intern should have a strong work ethic, maintain attention to detail, and be able to work independently as well as a part of a team. Applicants who are proficient in Microsoft Office (including Publisher and Excel) and have some experience in event planning, marketing, customer service and/or graphic design are encouraged to apply.

 

This is an unpaid internship for College/class credit - must provide letter from school showing that credit will be given.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating logistical aspects of various events such as securing in-kind donations, recruiting volunteers, preparing event materials, etc.
  • Provide support to development and implementation of corporate partnerships
  • Helping with event day logistics
  • Recruting and retaining participants through phone calls, email contact, mailing supplies, technical support, and fundraiser visits etc.
  • Aid in volunteer management
  • Assist and implement grassroots efforts to promote LLS campaigns and acquire new community contacts
  • Participating in grassroots marketing and fundraising efforts
  • Assisting the Donor Development staff with publicizing special events, information meetings, and other activities as needed
  • Running donor acknowledgment letters on a weekly basis
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of LLS and our mission and programs
  • Assist with team management as assigned by LLS staff
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and database management
  • Tech savvy, i.e. Facebook, Twitter and other social media
  • Basic knowledge on composing and submitting press releases
  • Detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • High-level professionalism
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Strong interpersonal skills and judgment
  • Ability to create a plan, execute, and meet deadlines
  • Strong project management and planning skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently, as well as a part of a team
  • Proficient in business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Confidentiality with all patient/donor/volunteer information
  • Experience with phones/customer service and/or events preferred

 

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • May be required to move campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events.
  • Travel within the greater New Orleans area
  • Requirement may include attendance at evening or weekend events.
